Frequently asked questions
- Is therapy covered by insurance?
- OHIP does not cover psychotherapy. Most extended health benefits plans, through work or school, cover Registered Psychotherapists up to a yearly amount. You pay for the session, I give you a receipt with my CRPO registration number, and you submit it to your plan. Check your plan for the words "Registered Psychotherapist" or "psychotherapy".
- Do you offer reduced fees?
- Yes. I hold a limited number of reduced-fee spots for clients who need them. Please ask when you get in touch.
- Do you do therapy in person or online?
- Both. Sessions are in person in Peterborough or online by secure video anywhere in Ontario.
- How does it work with children and teens?
- The first call is with the parent. After that I meet your child. With younger children I use play and creative activities; with teens, sessions are mostly conversation. I explain how confidentiality works to both of you at the start.
- How often will we meet, and for how long?
- That depends on what you are coming in for. In the first session we talk about what you want to work on, and I give you a sense of how I would approach it and how often I suggest meeting to start. We review this together as we go, and you can pause or stop at any time.
- What does Qualifying mean?
- I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario in the Qualifying category. This means I practise under the supervision of a fully registered psychotherapist while I complete the hours the College requires. Receipts are valid for benefits claims.
- What if I am in crisis?
- Call or text 9-8-8, Canada's suicide crisis line, or go to your nearest emergency department. I am not a crisis service.
